Discussion:
Change CD key after installation?
(too old to reply)

I've got two PCs at home, and have installed Battlefield 2 and
Battlefield 2: Special Forces on each. I can play on either machine,
but not at the same time. I've now got the opportunity to play with
someone else on the 2 PCs now, so I need to purchase second copies of
BF2 and BF2:SF.

My question is: Do I have to reinstall BF2 and BF2:SF to apply the new
CD keys?

Or can I change the keys without reinstalling? I'd rather not have to
install both games and the patches if possible.

In your BF2 directory, [iirc] there is a file called "BF2key.exe"
Run that program and enter the new BF2 key.

you can use that program to change the bf2 key, but you will also need
to change the SF key. only way i know how to do that is in the regstry
under software, ea games, bf2 sf, egrc. make sure you type the key in
allcaps with no spaces or dashes. once you have both keys changed,
rerun the patch, or the bf2cdkeycheck.exe that is in a hidden folder
with the special forces install files. this will properly rencrypt the
2 keys into your one unique key you will need to play online.

Have now got my second BF2 installed and working. Haven't got another
BF2:SF yet, but this is fine for now.

This is how I did it:

- I already had BF2 and BF2:SF installed up to patch 1.3
- Ran BF2 CD key changer "Battlefield 2_code.exe" in folder
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Support"
- Entered my new CD key

Started BF2 online game but key was not valid, so...
- Ran CD key checker "BF2CdKeyCheck.exe" from
BF2:SF DVD folder "D:\Support"
(no UI for this utility, so it looks like nothing happened)

Started BF2 online game and CD key is valid and I got my two PCs to
join the same server and play against each other.

When I get another copy of SF I'll try the registry edit method below.

Cheers for your help guys.
